Welcome to The GrowEd Blog: Where All Learners Grow

Hi, Friend!

I'm so glad you're here. Whether you found me through an in-person or online workshop, a YouTube Short, or by accident while searching for how not to kill a tomato plant, welcome. You’re in the right place.

I’m Sonya, aka NJ Garden Teacher (a name my afterschool garden kids gave me and I proudly wear like a badge of honor). I’m a passionate educator, garden coach, and someone who deeply believes that everyone deserves access to the healing, grounding, joy-filled magic of growing something.

Why The GrowEd?

I started The GrowEd to make gardening accessible for all abilities. As someone living with chronic pain and disability, I know firsthand how the traditional gardening advice out there often skips over people like me—and maybe people like you too.

This space is different.

Here, we talk about adaptations. We learn how to listen to our bodies while growing food. We garden through grief, through joy, through menopause and mobility challenges. We make room for kids with big energy and quiet grownups who are just getting started.

What You’ll Find Here

This blog will be filled with:

  • Real talk about garden wins and losses

  • Step-by-step guides that actually make sense

  • Resources for adaptive tools and trauma-informed garden learning

  • Stories from my little corner of the Garden State

You’ll also see links to free downloadable tools, recorded workshops, and lots of behind-the-scenes lessons I’ve learned in the soil.

Let’s Grow Together

If this sounds like your kind of vibe—stick around. Bookmark the page, sign up for the newsletter, or come say hi over on YouTube or TikTok. I’m so excited to build this growing, inclusive garden community with you.

From my garden to yours,
Sonya @NJGardenTeacher
Keep growing!
